ISPA Conference Combats Cagey Consumer Concerns

A practical guide to consumer issues affecting your business

After the very successful debut conference in December 2005, ISPA is pleased to announce that they will be holding its second conference on 26th May 2006. Sponsored by Eversheds, BT Wholesale and CSIA, this one-day conference will focus on topical business related issues and will provide vital information to ISPs on specific consumer issues affecting their business.

Offering a day consisting of speakers and two afternoon workshops, it is through this conference that you can advance your knowledge on issues ranging from ISP’s Role in assisting Businesses with Security Issues to Government Co-operation with Industry to combat child abuse on the Internet. This conference will provide essential information to managing directors and senior management so that they can combat the exact consumer issues affecting their business.

The conference will be held at Eversheds House in Manchester.

The ISPA Conference costs £175 for ISPA Members for the first delegate and £125 for subsequent delegates. Non ISPA Members can register for £275 for the first delegate and £225 for subsequent delegates.

Upcoming edition of Hardcopy

The sixth edition of Hardcopy – ISPA’s printed newsletter is set to be released this spring. In this edition, ISPA focuses on consumer issues relating to ISPs, a topic our Members deal with daily.

From the creation and importance of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) schemes, to how ISPs can help consumers choose the most appropriate service and the issue of media literacy this edition of Hardcopy will provide useful insights into how ISPs can protect their most valuable asset – their customers.

Hardcopy will be automatically distributed to all ISPA members. If you are not an ISPA member, but would like receive a copy and glean insights from the UK’s leading trade association of the Internet industry, please contact the ISPA press office.

E-Commerce Regulation Hints Change

Upcoming Legal Forum

ISPA’s next Legal Forum is to be held on Thursday 7th June 2006 and is hosted by International Law Firm Bird & Bird. This forum will focus on the Electronic Commerce Regulations 2002 that came into force on 21st August 2002 and strongly affect ISPA Members.

There will be numerous speakers participating in the discussion including Graham Smith, Partner at Bird & Bird. The Forum will consider the proposed changes to the E-Commerce Regulation. This is your chance to come and find out more on Electronic Commerce, share your experience and gain some new insight in this area from the very best.

After the Legal Forum you will also have the opportunity to mingle informally and meet fellow members of ISPA over a drink.

The Legal Forum will be held at the Bird & Bird head offices in London.

Registration for the Forum is at 2:30pm. There will be a prompt 3pm start and the Forum will finish at 5:45pm.

Choosing an ISP and data retention

ISPA garnered media coverage recently by advising consumers that it is not sensible to choose an ISP on price alone.

ISPA also spoke out in support of its Members in the face of EU regulations on data retention.
